In June, three Westerville Central High School students traveled to St. John U.S. Virgin Islands and participated in a Global Health course sponsored by PAST Innovation Labs.  Recently graduated Kayla Stevens, Junior Hannah Worley, and Sophomore Jack Riccobono, along with additional Central Ohio high school pupils, attended the 10-day trip and studied health issues and sustainable practices viewed through health, environment, settlement, and immigration patterns.  Each individual selected a topic to research thoroughly and presented their findings to researchers staying at the Virgin Islands Environmental Research Station (VIERS).  Student research focused on invasive species, medicinal botany, the Taino Indian culture, 18th century shipwrecks and a host of additional topics.  Westerville Central Health Pathways teacher Autumn McCormick, along with retired science teachers Pam Hayes and Susan Wasmund, attended the trip and taught a variety of immersive lessons.
