In an effort to keep the students and staff as safe as possible during this prom season, Westerville Central High School Principal Todd Spinner – along with Genoa Township Police Department School Resource Officer Joey Graham, Junior Class Advisor Natalie Taylor, and Senior Class Advisor Jerry McSwords – have set up several events and activities to accomplish this goal.

Two horrifically damaged vehicles, totaled in texting and driving accidents, are displayed on each side of the building.  This serves as a reminder to pupils to make good choices not only over prom weekend, but always.

In addition, the Genoa Township Police department was out in full force on Wednesday morning handing out gift certificates to those going to prom who signed the “Prom Promise,” pledging to not drink and drive or text and drive during prom weekend.

Also, earlier in the week, an AAA inspection took place for the cars of upper classmen.  71 automobiles were evaluated, 48 of which had at least one failure, ranging from lubricant issues to batteries, belts, hoses, tires, wheels and lights.  Students were reminded about the importance of practicing preventative maintenance.

At the conclusion of the week, McSwords and Spinner addressed the entire senior class about making good decisions “this weekend and for the rest of the school year.”
