The Rotary Club of Westerville, which sponsors a Student of the Month program, recognized recipients at a luncheon at Villa Milano held on November 7.  November students are:  Greta Antonetz, Westerville Central High School; Layla Barnes, Westerville North High School; and Larry Brasher, Westerville South High School.

The purpose of the program is twofold:  to recognize outstanding students who have distinguished themselves by serving their school and to expose them to the Rotary Club and its ideal of “Service Above Self.”  Students selected join Rotarians for lunch every week for a month, and have the opportunity to interact with members.

Greta Antonetz, a senior at Westerville Central, holds a 3.7 grade point average.  Her favorite subjects of study are math, language arts, and art.  She is a member of the Renaissance Club and Ski Club, and serves as a Junior Mentor.  She is a member of the swim team and is a pre-professional ballet dancer at Columbus City Ballet School.  She is in the process of deciding where she will continue her education after graduating from Central.

Math and science are Layla Barnes’ favorite subjects.  The Westerville North senior, who holds a 3.4 GPA, is president of the International Club, where her goal is to “bridge the gap between students.”  She is also involved in Benevolent Warriors.  In addition, she tutors, volunteers with senior citizens, and helps ESL students to acclimate.  She has earned awards in the areas of academics, leadership and school spirit.  Barnes plans to attend Ohio State where she would like to pursue a major in the medical field and eventually work with children.

Larry Brasher is a senior at Westerville South.  His favorite subjects are literature, psychology and history.  He is active in theatre and volunteers at his church.  He has earned several honors during his school career, being named Student of the Month three times in elementary school; Top Dog in middle school; and as a Cat with Class in high school.  He would like to major in psychology at Kent State, Akron or Ohio State.
