The Rotary Club of Westerville, which sponsors a Student of the Month program, recognized recipients at a luncheon at Villa Milano held on May 2.  May students are:  Shae Feenstra, Westerville Central High School; Rachel Jackson, Westerville North High School; and Jared Higdon, Westerville South High School.

The purpose of the program is twofold:  to recognize outstanding students who have distinguished themselves by serving their school and to expose them to the Rotary Club and its ideal of “Service Above Self.”  Students selected join Rotarians for lunch every week for a month, and have the opportunity to interact with members.

Shae Feenstra, a senior at Westerville Central, holds a grade point average of 4.299 and math is her favorite subject of study.  She is a member of the National Honor Society, a middle school mentor, and an office helper.  She is captain of the soccer team and is active in the Renaissance program.  Outside of school she participates in soccer camps and volunteers at food banks.  Feenstra plans to major in Athletic Training at the University of Cincinnati.

Westerville North senior Rachel Jackson holds a 4.38 cumulative grade point average and was named Outstanding Honors Chemistry Student and Outstanding Honors Physics Student.  She is a Columbus Dispatch Scholar Athlete.  She is also a member of the National Honor Society, the International Club Fair, and the Spanish Club.  Jackson has volunteered at many Knights of Columbus events, at an animal shelter, as an English as a Second Language teacher’s aide, and as an office helper.  She will continue her education at Ohio University in Athens, where she will swim competitively.

Literature is Jared Higdon’s favorite subject of study at Westerville South High School.  The senior, who holds a 4.299 grade point average, is the most decorated member of the school’s swim team.  He is a volunteer coach for Special Olympics and was named “Top Cat” at South.  He plans to study Business Marketing at Miami University.
