Preston Montler, an eighth-grader at Walnut Springs Middle School, has been invited to compete in a regional spelling competition this spring sponsored by Ohio University School of Business after taking first place in a school-wide competition.
By competing in the regional meet, Montler has a chance to compete at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. this summer.
In the Walnut Springs competition, which was online via a new platform from Scripps, seventh-grader Jeannette Moriak and eighth-grader Adam Kauh tied for second place while seventh-grader Kacee Bohan placed third.
The program is supported by Walnut Springs and the Language Arts and Gifted Education departments.
