The Ohio School Boards Association is celebrating School Board Recognition Month in January to build awareness and understanding of the vital function an elected board of education plays in our society.  Under this year’s theme of “Planting Seeds of Success,” Westerville City Schools is pleased to join other districts throughout the state to recognize the important contributions that school board members make to their communities.

“Far too often, we take for granted the dedication and hard work of these individuals who represent our community,” said Westerville Superintendent Dr. John Kellogg.  “Our school board is one of more than 700 such boards across the state that provide local control of public schools. That means critical decisions are being made by elected representatives who truly understand their community’s unique issues, values, circumstances, and cultures. I can share from first-hand knowledge that, based upon their relationships and affiliations outside of their role as a Board members, our Board members serve as vital connectors between the numerous segments that comprise our community and our district.”

Board members were treated to a live performance by Westerville South High School’s Soundsation, as well as a video of a song performed by choir members from Westerville North and Westerville Central. Mayor Kathy Cocuzzi presented a proclamation from the City of Westerville, and each Board member received a gift basket of handmade soaps and other products from Westerville North’s Chem Gems.

Community members serving on the Westerville City Schools Board of Education are Jennifer Aultman, Rev. Vaughn Bell, Tracy Davidson, Dr. Nancy Nestor-Baker, and Rev. Rick Vilardo.
