Students at Walnut Springs Middle School were focused on the future on Tuesday, December 16 – Career Day.  Sixth and seventh graders got an overview of various careers and professions in a way that was both informative and engaging.  In the morning, a Career Fair was held in the gymnasium.  Youngsters could go from booth to booth, asking questions of more than 30 presenters representing a wide variety of occupations including those who work in the medical field, home builders, military personnel, engineers, hospitality personnel and government officials.

In the afternoon, the pupils honed in on occupations that interested them.  They got to hear presenters speak in classrooms about what they do for a living, the pros and cons of their particular career, the earning potential or salary range, and the importance of education and training.  They also learned about the value of setting goals, which can begin immediately.

The event was organized by Guidance Counselor Amy Van Sickle and the Walnut Springs College and Career Readiness Committee.  The school’s PTSA provided refreshments for all professional participants.
