Westerville students, families, staff and community members are invited to an African-American Read-In hosted by Blendon Middle School from 10-11:30 a.m. on Feb. 25. Register for the event here.

The event, now in its fourth year in Westerville City Schools, encourages community members to read together and celebrate African-American literature. This year’s theme is Celebrating the Beauty of Family.

Students can also participate in a writing contest with prizes awarded to winners in the following categories: K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12.

The National African-American Read-In was established in 1990 by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English to make literacy a significant part of Black History Month. The African-American Read-In is the longest running literacy event that features diverse literature in our country.
