Mason Wu, a seventh-grader at Blendon Middle School and Nathan Bell, an eighth-grader at Walnut Springs Middle School will represent the district in the virtual MathCounts state competition this month, vying for a seat in the virtual national competition May 8-10th.

Math teacher Cynthia Shimovetz coaches Blendon’s team while math teacher Steven Chandler coaches Walnut Springs’ team.

The program is supported by both middle schools and the Math and Gifted Education Departments. The MathCounts Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides engaging math programs to U.S. middle school students of all ability levels in order to build confidence and improve attitudes towards math and problem-solving.
