After learning about water pollution, Victoria Cook’s 7th grade science students at Blendon Middle School decided to spearhead a fundraiser to help people gain access to clean water.  They directed their efforts towards an organization called Charity: Water, a non-profit group devoted to bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing countries.

Blendon Principal Kendall Harris donated money to purchase gift cards, which were raffled off through tickets sold for 25 cents each during lunches and study halls.  The cards came from iTunes, Target, Starbucks, Dairy Queen, Old Navy and Chipotle.  The fundraiser took place from November 17-25 and winners were announced on Tuesday, November 25.  When the dust stetted, ticket sales resulted in a total of $820, which was donated to Charity: Water – enough to provide clean drinking water to 41 people.
