A Blendon 7th grader presents to the 6th grade class.

Tapping students’ own experiences and having those students share those experiences with others can be a powerful tool.  As part of the language arts and social studies curricula, 7th grader Winston Whitford returned to his 6th grade advanced social studies class to present facts and stories from his international travels, particularly his visit to family in Christchurch, England. Geography, government, traditions, dress, and food were all topics addressed via a PowerPoint, which was filled with pictures and photographs and supplemented by personal first-hand accounts.

Whitford’s former advanced social studies teacher, Jeff McMillan, and current advanced language arts teacher, Julie Warner, worked to support this cross-grade, cross-discipline collaboration.
