Hanby Elementary will host a Centennial Celebration noon-4 p.m. on Saturday, April 29 at 56 S. State Street.

The event is open to the greater Westerville community, including current and former Westerville and Hanby staff and students, families, friends and neighbors.

The celebration will include a short ceremony and otherwise operate as an open house, where attendees can pick and choose how they spend their time. There will be opportunities to look back at the last 100 years at Hanby as well as fun and educational activities focused on both history and Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM).

The Angry Wiener and Little Ladies Soft Serve food trucks will be there. Participants can also partake in complimentary birthday cake.

A new Hanby song will be unveiled and sung by Hanby students in cooperation with Otterbein University.

Hanby Elementary opened in 1923 as Westerville High School. It has served as a high school, middle school and elementary school and at one point, held administrative offices.

Today, Hanby is home to Math/Science and Arts Magnet programs, as well as the district's self-contained gifted program. Starting with the 2023-24 school year, the Magnet program will unify, transitioning to a STEAM focus for grades 1-5.
