Hanby students shrieked with joy as a second grader pied principal and good sport Monica Brown during a raucous assembly celebrating a successful fundraiser for the school.

It’s not every day when one can throw a pie in the principal’s face and not get in trouble.  But that’s what happened to second grade Hanby Elementary student Owen Wiggins, winner of the school’s fund-raising prize.  Principal Monica Brown generously volunteered her services as excited students watched Wiggins, using a two-handed method, splatter the perfectly-placed pie.  The reward was the result of a successful Smarts-A-Thon event held on September 23 and sponsored by the PTA.  The annual fundraiser allows the children, who are sponsored by family members and friends, to visit different learning stations throughout the day.  Money raised provides funding for hands-on field trips and educational enrichment.
