On Thursday, October 17, Hanby Magnet School sponsored its fall fundraiser, a SMARTS-athon (Science, Math and Arts), which took the place of a traditional walk-a-thon.  Students collected sponsor money to participate in the “walk” through four learning stations, which included:

  • A Bug Petting Zoo, presented by The Ohio State University’s Insectary and Department of Evolution, Ecology, an Organismal Biology.  Interesting insects were shown to pupils who learned from the experts about what they are and how they help us.
  • Everyday Physics, hosted by MathWizard.  Participants learned about Isaac Newton’s laws of gravity and motion using unique experiments designed to engage and generate interest in how physics impact everyone.
  • Exploring Music, a workshop led by the Otterbein University Music Department, which examined how instruments work.  A hands-on demonstration featuring musical instruments and vocalists, showed how music is created.
  • An Archeology Adventure, sponsored by Westerville Partners for Education, where children explored a recreated site and learned techniques and processes used in discovering and preserving ancient treasures.
