Last school year, the fifth grade Crochet Club at Hanby Elementary set out on a lofty mission – to crochet 24 four-inch x four-inch squares as part of a blanket to donate to a hospitalized baby.  With the help of volunteer Sara Mercer-Sells, they recently met their goal.

First, they had to learn how to crochet!  Throughout the school year, students in Angie Heath’s gifted 5th grade class “yarned” with “Miss Sara,” who taught them how to make the squares.  When the squares were finished, she assembled the blanket for them and on July 31, it was officially presented to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in downtown Columbus.  Ema Rennie served as the Crochet Club’s student representative.  Heath said, “Some lucky baby will be warmer thanks to the love and dedication of the Hanby Crochet Club!”
