Students at Hanby Elementary School have been bringing in toiletry items for a project called Hanby Helps the Homeless.  The Hanby Elementary Student Council, which is comprised of pupils chosen for the Westerville City Schools Elementary Leadership Summit, has assembled these kits for donation. Approximately 80 kits were distributed to homeless individuals being served at Faith Mission.  Additional kits will be given to the Community Kitchen and homeless ministries.  Full sized items that have been collected will be donated to the Westerville Area Resource Ministry.  These items are desirable because many of them cannot be bought with EBT cards or through supplemental government programs.  Students learned from news interviews that there are approximately 12,000 homeless people in Central Ohio.  They recognized that it can be challenging for these individuals to find work or be able to visit establishments if hygiene is at issue. Those who received the toiletry kits have been extremely appreciative of the contents, which include deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, toothpaste, a tooth brush, Chap Stick, and bandages.
