Hanby Magnet School Hosts Learn-a-thon on November 2
11/9/2012
Courageous Hanby fourth grade students handle some “beautiful bugs” which were brought from the Insect Physiology Lab at The Ohio State University.
Fund raising took on a new look at Hanby Magnet School this year. Instead of participating in a Walk-a-thon, as in the past, students instead enjoyed a Learn-a-thon on Friday, November 2. Hanby parent Julie Reynolds, Ph.D., Insect Physiology Lab EEOB at The Ohio State University, was the creative force behind this event. The Learn-a-thon combined art and science to enhance the educational experience. An insect zoo was set up in the Library so pupils could see how “beautiful bugs” have inspired many scientific creations in engineering and biomimicry. In the Music Room, students studied instruments and investigated high and low pitches that are made on everyday items. In the Art Room they commemorated their special day by drawing pictures about what they learned. If fundraising exceeds the goal of $8,000, Hanby’s PTA will provide a photo booth for the students to enjoy. There will also be class prizes for the children who bring in the most money.
