For the past month, Emerson Elementary second-graders have researched people who have changed the world, examining their lives from their birth to death or present day. They then created poster displays and crafted dolls out of water bottles.

On Friday, they presented their work in the style of a science fair to their peers, parents and family members.

“It's wonderful to see how many famous people started working toward their goals when they were 7 or 8 — just like our second graders,” said Jennifer Pugh, who has hosted the project for nine years. Emma Robinson, who also teaches second grade at Emerson, also brought the project to her students this year.

“It can be so inspiring for them to see that their actions now can lead them on wonderful and exciting paths.”
