Fourth-graders Archana Khanal, Shubhraketan Kanmury and Irika Shukla brought the Diwali celebration to Emerson Elementary last week, showing their peers how to make crafts and introducing them to Indian treats.
Diwali, a festival of lights and India’s biggest holiday of the year, was celebrated on Nov. 4. The three students demonstrated how to make paper versions of diyas — lamps that are lit during Diwali celebrations — and how to create rangoli art using colored sand. The Kanmury and Shukla families provided traditional Indian food for the Diwali celebration.
