Three Westerville students are among the winners in the Franklin Soil and Water Conservation District’s annual conservation poster contest. In the grades 3-5 category, the winners include:

  • 1st place: Nora Bjerke, a fourth-grade student in Mara Clark’s class at Emerson Elementary

  • 2nd place: Caitlyn Curtis, a third-grade student in Kim Cody’s class at Alcott Elementary

  • Honorable Mention: Camaryn Burns, a third-grade student in Kristy Hageman’s class at Alcott

The theme for the 2021 conservation poster contest focused on “Healthy Forests, Healthy Communities” and the importance of trees — how they absorb carbon from the atmosphere, stabilize the soil, filter water, provide a healthy habitat for wildlife and offer many additional benefits for nature, people and biodiversity. More than a dozen schools in six Central Ohio school districts participated in this year’s contest. The winning posters can be viewed on the Franklin Soil and Water Conservation District’s website.
