Emerson Magnet School will hold its annual talent show at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 6 at Westerville South High School, which is located at 303 S. Otterbein Ave. Admission to “Amaya’s Got Talent” is $1 per person, with tickets being sold at the door. Proceeds will be donated to the family of Amaya Street, a first grade student at Hawthorne Elementary who is battling a rare form of cancer.

Micaela Schmaman’s fifth graders have embraced a year-round service learning project focusing on childhood cancer. Street’s story hit home for many as she is a fellow Westerville student, and her cousin, Elisha Roberts, is in Schmaman’s class. The pupils are excited about the opportunity to help the Street family. During the week following the talent show, they will continue their fundraising efforts by holding a Penny Wars drive in their building. Later on in the year the class will be working with Alex’s Lemonade Stand to raise funds for childhood cancer research.
