Westerville high school theatre programs accepted into CAPA award program

The theatre programs for all three Westerville high schools have been accepted into the CAPA Marquee High School Musical Theatre Awards and will vie for honors in 11 categories from participating high schools throughout Central Ohio. 

Designed to celebrate, support, and advocate for high school musical theatre education throughout the region, the CAPA Marquee High School Musical Theatre Awards will evaluate nominated high school musical theatre students and productions in categories such as Best Musical Production, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Direction and Outstanding Ensemble Performance.

The high schools will be evaluated on the following productions:

  • Westerville South High School

Bright Star, the musical

October 28, 30 and 31

  • Westerville North High School

Disney's The Little Mermaid

March 17, 18, 19 and 20

  • Westerville Central High School

Shrek, The musical

March 18, 19 and 20

The CAPA Marquee Awards will announce the winners at a student showcase event on May 10, 2022 at the Ohio Theatre. Modeled after the Tony® Awards, the CAPA Marquee Awards showcase will include live performances from the nominees as well as opening and closing numbers that incorporate nominated students from all participating high schools.

Students selected as Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Actress in a Leading Role will be designated as Jimmy® Award nominees and will receive a CAPA-sponsored trip to attend “Jimmy’s Week” in New York City, a training intensive with theatre professionals and industry experts and will compete on the national level for the 2022 Jimmy Awards® for Best Performance by an Actor and Best Performance by an Actress.
