Westerville Educational Support Staff Association Awards Three Scholarships

The Westerville Educational Support Staff Association (WESSA) hosted its annual Spring Fling and General Membership Meeting on May 9, during which time they presented three $300 scholarships to deserving high school students.  Recipients are:

  • Safia Hersi, Westerville Central High School, who plans to study English at The Ohio State University;
  • Mikayla Pugh, Westerville North High School, who will major in Psychology at The Ohio State University; and
  • Olivia Smith, Westerville South High School, who will focus on Chemistry and Engineering at Otterbein University. 

Also recognized at the meeting was WESSA Treasurer Teresa Woods, for winning the Fiscal Award from the Ohio Education Association (OEA) for the past three years in a row.  

The WESSA union consists of 144 members who serve as support staff in the Westerville City School District.  They work at 25 different locations, and hold positions including building and departmental secretaries, clerks, paraprofessionals, health aides, study hall monitors and media clerks.
