The Rotary Club of Westerville, which sponsors a Student of the Month program, recognized recipients at a luncheon at Villa Milano held on Thursday, April 5.  April students are Trent McFarland, Westerville North High School; and Aidan Thompson, Westerville South High School.

The purpose of the program is twofold:  to recognize outstanding pupils who have distinguished themselves by serving their school and to expose them to the Rotary Club and its ideal of “Service Above Self.”  Students selected join Rotarians for lunch every week for a month, and have the opportunity to interact with members.

Trent McFarland, a senior at Westerville North High School, holds a 4.1 grade point average (GPA).  History and Government are his favorite subjects of study.  School activities include tennis, Global Scholars, Fundraiser of Faith Foundation, Superintendent’s Advisory Committee and the Warrior Athletic Leadership Team.  He volunteers at McVay Elementary and was a Rotary Youth Exchange student in Austria.  McFarland has been on the Honor Roll three times, will receive an Honors Diploma, and earned an AP Award of Distinction.  He plans to study International Affairs at the American University in Washington, D.C.

Westerville South High School senior Aidan Thompson enjoys studying History, Science and the Humanities.  He holds a 3.8 GPA and serves as Senior Class Treasurer.  He is active in Theatre and Mixed Martial Arts; was a Student Walkout Leader for Westerville; and is a practitioner of Shambhala Buddhism.  He has earned letters for academics, orchestra and theatre; is a member of the National Honor Society; and was a Buckeye Boys State Delegate.  He plans to study History at Lake Forest College on Chicago’s North Shore.
