A resolution in support of the Stand Up for Public Schools campaign was read at the Regular Session of the Westerville City Schools Board of Education on January 22.  The Board joined the Ohio School Boards Association, in coordination with the National School Boards Association, in celebrating public education’s stellar performance in preparing today’s children for tomorrow’s challenges.

Traditional public school districts in the State of Ohio serve more than 1.8 million students and employ more than 245,000 Ohioans full time.  Year after year, public schools in Westerville and across Ohio are among the best in the country, earning national recognition, landing on prestigious awards lists and showcasing models of efficiency and achievement.

The resolution called public schools the “great equalizer,” able to empower every child to fulfill his or her potential, regardless of race, gender, socioeconomic circumstance or religious affiliation.  The Westerville School Board joined their colleagues across the state in commemorating Public Education Week, which takes place from January 21-27.
