On November 10 and 17, the Westerville South High School iStudio was filled with scientific inquiry and communication as International Baccalaureate (IB) students presented the findings of their Group 4 Science Projects at the Group 4 Science Symposium. IB subject areas are grouped by content area, and Group 4 pertains to the experimental sciences. The science courses offered in the International Baccalaureate program at South are Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Sports, Exercise & Health Science. This year, more than 173 students are enrolled in IB science classes, an all-time high for the program.
At this symposium, fellow students, parents, community members, teachers and building and district administrators browsed through unique group table presentations of in depth study of a science topic of their choice. Student groups were composed of interdisciplinary and cross-grade level teams. This student-centered program is just one of many ways South’s IB program provides opportunities for students to create, collaborate and communicate their ideas in the learning process.
