The Westerville South High School Marching Band, conducted by John Laswell, enjoyed a successful string of performances last weekend.  The band braved the rain, sleet, and snow to receive a Superior rating at the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) State Marching Band Contest held at Hilliard Darby High School.  This is the highest rating given to marching bands in the OMEA circuit.  The band followed that performance with a season high score at the Mid-States Band Association (MSBA) Colerain show, earning third overall out of 24 competing bands.

South’s show is titled Pandora, tapping into Greek Mythology and exploring the tale of Pandora’s Box.  The performance includes music from Pan’s Labyrinth, Steven Reineke’s Fate of the Gods, and Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah.

The band concludes their 2017 season on November 4 at Mason High School at the 2017 MSBA Class AAAA Championships, where they hope to be a finalist.  A band banquet will be held on November 13.
