The Rotary Club of Westerville, which sponsors a Student of the Month program, recognized recipients at a luncheon at Villa Milano held on Thursday, October 12.  October students are Madison Seabury, Westerville Central High School; Greg Shehee, Westerville North High School; Greg Hassenpflug, Westerville South High School, and Kyle Moon, St. Francis DeSales High School.

The purpose of the program is twofold:  to recognize outstanding students who have distinguished themselves by serving their school and to expose them to the Rotary Club and its ideal of “Service Above Self.”  Students selected join Rotarians for lunch every week for a month, and have the opportunity to interact with members.

Madison Seabury, a senior at Westerville Central, holds a 4.55 grade point average (GPA).  English and History are her favorite subjects of study.  She is a four-year varsity soccer letter-winner and National Honor Society co-president.  Seabury is involved in Young Life and Wyldlife, and serves as a tutor at local elementary schools.  She is also the Voice of Democracy essay contest winner.  She plans to study Psychology at The Ohio State University.

English is Greg Shehee’s favorite subject at Westerville North, where he serves on the Superintendent’s Advisory Committee, Leadership Team, and WALT Leadership Team.  Football, wrestling and track keep him busy after school, but he still finds time to coach youth wrestling and participate in Young Life.  Shehee attended the National Federation of State High School Association’s National Leadership Summit, and was emcee at the recent Ohio High School Athletic Association’s Student Leadership Conference.  His plans for the future include earning a degree in Education and giving back to his community.

Westerville South senior Greg Hassenpflug, who holds a 4.1 GPA, likes Math and Science.  He is a member of his school’s marching band and theatre troupe, and is active in the National Honor Society.  He earned an AP Scholar Award and three academic letters.  He is also active in the youth group at Church of the Master.  Hassenpflug plans to continue his education at Ohio Northern University or the College of Wooster.

DeSales senior Kyle Moon has earned a 4.4 GPA, and his favorite subjects are Science and Language.  This Student Council president is also National Honor Society secretary, Peer Ministry student director, and a member of the Student Ambassadors Core Team.  He is a runner and is active in the Italian Club.  Community service activities include co-founding Corral for the Kids, serving as event chair for Haitian Christmas, working with the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation and the Franklin County Dog Shelter, and serving as a peer tutor.  Moon has won a number of awards including the President’s Volunteer Service Award Gold, FaceForward Ordinary Teen Doing Extraordinary Things, and the Bob Lemmon Coach’s Award.  He is an AP Scholar with Honors and a National Merit Commended Student.  He wants to major in Biology on the pre-med track.
