Westerville South students enjoyed watching each other’s films.
Westerville South High School students in Emily Swank’s Film and Literature classes became filmmakers when embarking on their capstone project for the year. Pupils were required to create a self-generated research question based on a director of their choice. They then conducted extensive research on the director and his/her films as well as screening multiple films before creating a documentary that ultimately sought to expose the biography, style, context, and meaning of their director’s films. Students worked with teacher-librarian Debbie King in the media center as they learned to use WeVideo to edit their work. For many, this was their first attempt at filmmaking, or their first journey on a research project of this extent.
