A team of freshmen and sophomores from Westerville South High School, making their first appearance at the 3rd annual Battle of the Books competition, walked away with the championship trophy.  Along with a team from Westerville North, the students engaged in a 13-school double-elimination tournament held at Gahanna Lincoln High School on Thursday, April 19.  The battles between the metro area schools was both intense and enthusiastic as book lovers raced to be the first to buzz in to answer questions drawn from 36 different novels.  The students enjoy participating in the tournament because it requires them to read books from a variety of genres exposing them to novels they might not normally read otherwise.  Debbie King and Beth Baryon, library media specialists at South and North respectively, coached the teams.
