An IB Diploma Candidate discusses his Creativity-Activity-Service experiences with a Westerville South graduate and current student.

Westerville South High School’s iStudio was alive with energy on the evening of Wednesday, April 5, as students showcased their experiences in the International Baccalaureate Program.  The evening included displays of art from the senior IB Visual Arts students and science experiment presentations.

Additionally, senior IB Diploma Candidates participated in a CAS Fair.  CAS (Creativity-Activity-Service) is a core requirement of the IB Diploma Program.  It is an excellent example of IB’s philosophy and practice of educating the entire student (intellectually-physically-emotionally) and encouraging and fostering experiences both in and out of the classroom to facilitate this philosophy.

During the CAS Fair, students shared their experiences and showed how these experiences demonstrated successful completion of the CAS Learning outcomes:

  • Increased their awareness of their own strengths and areas for growth
  • Undertaken new challenges
  • Planned and initiated activities
  • Worked collaboratively with others
  • Shown perseverance and commitment in their activities
  • Engaged with issues of global importance
  • Considered the ethical implications of their actions
  • Developed new skills

As can be seen from this list, and what was obvious from the discussions with students, Westerville South’s IB Program is successfully helping students prepare for the complex world that awaits them.
