International Baccalaureate Biology students, accompanied by Westerville South High School science teacher Janet Pritchard, attended a 2017 Otterbein University science lecture on Thursday evening, February 2. Guest speaker was Dr. Jennifer Verdolin, an adjunct professor at Duke University and the assistant director of the Advanced Inquiry Program of Project Dragonfly at Miami University. Her research explores the evolution of social behavior and mating systems and the topic of discussion was “The Animal Guide to Finding Love and Raising Kids.” Students learned humans are attracted to members of the opposite sex, perform courtships, and raise their young in much the same manner as other animals – not just other mammals. Pritchard said Dr. Verdolin was an engaging speaker who had the audience laughing throughout the presentation.
