Westerville South High School Sophomore Elle Rollyson was recently selected to represent Ohio’s Central Area during the 2020-21 school year as an officer for the International Thespian Society (ITS).

This past school year, Rollyson worked with peers from around central Ohio and the state to plan conferences and activities for Ohio Theatre students. The Central Area is the largest area of ITS in terms of membership.

According to the organization’s website, ITS is the only theatre honorary of its kind for middle and high school students. Since 1929, ITS and its troupes have affirmed the quality of affiliated theatre programs, bringing credibility and distinction to both students and schools.

Together, ITS and the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA) give theatre students, teachers, and professionals necessary support to grow their theatre programs and promote the importance of theatre education. The mission of the EdTA is to shape lives through theatre education.

With more than 135,000 student and teacher members, EdTA is in 13 countries and all 50 U.S. states. EdTA honors student achievement in theatre, supports teachers by providing professional resources, and influences public opinion that theatre education is essential for building life skills.

During the coming school year, Rollyson will lead the planning for the Central Area and state events, as well as serve on the Board of Directors.
