Youngsters practice emergency school bus evacuations each year in the Westerville City School District.

It is required by state law that emergency evacuation drills be conducted on school buses each year.  Those drills were completed recently in the Westerville School District, as scheduled by the Office of Purchasing and Logistics.  They consisted of half front/half rear exits; and then all rear exits.  Drills were held on school property.  During the evacuation, students were instructed not to take musical instruments, book bags, lunches, etc. from the bus.  They assembled at least 100 feet away from the bus in a designated safe area.  After the drills, they were allowed to return to their bus and pick up their possessions.  Drivers were urged to maintain a positive and professional attitude.
