Jody Christy has been named one of nine 2018 ASM Detroit Chapter Teachers Scholars.  She is a Chemistry and Material Science Engineering Teacher and Science Department Facilitator at Westerville Central High School.  Christy is being recognized for her time, dedication and interest in bringing the field of Materials Science to her students.  As a key contributor to outreach activities that promote materials science and engineering to pupils, she has been invited to Detroit on Monday, November 12, to receive this honor.

Each summer, educators attend a weeklong Materials Camp for Teachers in Ann Arbor.  Through laboratory demonstrations that can be replicated in classrooms, teachers are given information to bring the world of Materials Science to their students.  $250 grants are awarded to selected teachers for the purchase of equipment and supplies needed to perform these experiments.  In order to be eligible, recipients must attend Materials Camp and then write a short paragraph detailing how they will use the money to promote STEM education in the classroom.

ASM International is the world's largest association of metals-centric materials engineers and scientists. The Detroit Chapter is dedicated to informing, educating, and connecting the materials community to solve problems and stimulate innovation around the world.
