Principles of Biomedical Science students at Westerville Central High School attended a recent panel discussion hosted by the Delaware County Health Department.  Epidemiologist Heather Lane and health educator Arielle Hieronimus discussed a variety of public health topics and concerns with each class.  Students participated in a role-playing activity in which various students became “infected” with a disease to demonstrate how quickly a contagious pathogen can be spread.  Pupils also gained insight about the importance of vaccines, recent updates on this year’s flu outbreak, and E. coli contamination of romaine lettuce.  Attendees gained valuable perspective about public health campaigns and initiatives and how it “takes a village” to keep us all safe and informed.
