Understanding letters and the sounds they make are a fundamential skill when it comes to reading. Good readers have good phonics and we use a phonics based learning program called Fundations. Students at Huber Ridge are lucky enough to have had instruction through this program in both first and second grade! This program helps close the gaps for all readers as it is systematic and explicit in its phonics instruciton. Above grade level and already fluent readers will benefit from this program because both spelling and cursive writing are inlcuded in the instruciton. Please look for a home connections letter to come home at the beginning of each month in Friday Red Folders. I am so excited to see the growth in your child after using this fantastic program!
