Description:
All Westerville high school students can choose to participate in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB). The IB Diploma Program is a challenging two-year curriculum, aimed at students during their final two years of high school. It leads to a qualification that is widely recognized by the world’s leading universities. Students learn more than a body of knowledge. The Diploma Program prepares students for university and encourages them to: ask challenging questions, learn how to learn, develop a strong sense of their own identity and culture as well as develop the ability to communicate with and understand people from other countries and cultures. The entirety of the International Baccalaureate program is intended to be accessible by virtually all students. The International Baccalaureate Organizations welcomes participation from students with learning disabilities and offers accommodations to those who qualify. While the Diploma Program requires students to complete coursework in six disciplines as well as complete individualized research, make a commitment to creativity, action and service outside the classroom, as well as participate in a Theory of Knowledge course, students can elect to take coursework in two or more courses without completing the full diploma program. Westerville City School is proud to have one of the largest IB programs in Ohio, with a exam passage rate well above international averages. Our IB graduates are studying at universities both throughout the United States and overseas.
