EDay Lessons - Espanol 3H

EDay Lesson #1

Learning Target:

Students will use their Spanish for intrapersonal/interpersonal communication.

Students will write in the target language for an extended time.

Students will practice for the AP Spanish test, specifically the informal writing section.

Students will use the conditional verb tense.

Materials Needed:

Students need access to the internet and email.

The assignment is due no later than two weeks after our return to school.

Lesson Overview:

Students will be doing a practice informal writing for the AP Spanish language exam today, but in a very authentic way.  They will be sending me an email (one of the prompts on the exam) from home.  They will also be practicing a tense and grammatical structure that was new to them just this semester. 

Tasks (to include challenge activity as possible)

            1.  Send an email to me through my school email address.

2.  The topic:  If you could do anything you wanted to do today, since you have the day off, what would you do and why? 

            3.  Students should write for approximately 40 minutes, and then take time to edit and revise their message.

Evaluation/Assessment:

The email will be assessed on grammatical structure, topic development, vocabulary usage and general tone (using our general writing rubric).  It is worth 10 points.

 

EDay Lesson #2

Learning Target:

Students will practice their listening skills in the target language.

Students will be exposed to different accents of Spanish.

Students will learn about current events/news of the Spanish-speaking world.

Students will use current grammar to react to the news they listen to.

Students will use current vocabulary to react to and describe the news they listen to.

Materials Needed:

Students need a computer or phone with website and video access. They then need paper to finish the assignment or they may choose to email me their response.

The assignment is due no later than two weeks after our return to school.

Lesson Overview:

The students will be viewing some videos of interest on an authentic Spanish-language website for a television show presented on Univisión.  They will write up summaries of what they watch and then reacting to the news using expressions of opinion and reaction.

Tasks (to include challenge activity as possible)

            1.  Search El Gordo y La Flaca or go to Univision.com and find the link for El Gordo y La Flaca.

            2.  Investigate the site a bit.  Find some things that interest you.  Check out numerous videos.  You should investigate 3-4 celebrities. 

3.  Finally we gossip a bit.  For the 3-4 videos you select, write a short description of what you learn about each person/event.  React to what you learn using a good variety of vocabulary.  You should have 5-6 sentences each for each of the videos you select.

Evaluation/Assessment:

The reviews will be assessed on the amount and accuracy of the information reported, their grammatical correctness, the variety of vocab and expressions used.  The review is worth ten points.

EDay Lesson #3

Learning Target:

Students will practice their listening skills in the target language.

The assignment is due no later than two weeks after our return to school.

Lesson Overview:

The students will be listening to a podcast via notesinspanish.com today and then writing a reaction to what they hear.  Their reaction will require them to use expressions of opinion and reaction.

Tasks (to include challenge activity as possible)

1.  Go to notesinspanish.com and find podcast #38 under “intermediate audio.”  Its title is “Olé por Radiohead.”

            2.  Listen to the podcast as many times as necessary.

3.  Finally write a response/reaction to the podcast in Spanish.  Your response should show me that you understood what was being discussed; your opinion of it all, and it should include many examples of opinion/reaction vocabulary.  Different verb tenses should be included as well. The response should be at least 10 sentences long.

Evaluation/Assessment:

The reaction will be assessed based on a demonstration of knowledge of the content of the podcast, fluidity of response, expression of opinion, general grammar, and vocabulary usage (using our general writing rubric).  It is worth 10 points.
