Teddy Bear Times

                                News from Mrs. Gauen’s Kindergarten                          Feb.14, 2020

Happy Valentines Day!!! Thank you to everyone who helped with the Valentine party and helped with addressing valentines.  I know it takes a long time to get all of the cards signed and I appreciate your help with this. The children were very excited to open their cards today. Thank you also to everyone for the support of our Kisses for Character program that ended today. The funds from this program will be used to buy supplies to make blankets for My Very Own Blanket which provides blankets for children in the foster care system.

I hope you can join us on Thursday evening, March 5th for our Family Engagement Night. Lots of fun activities are planned throughout the school. The kindergarten classes will be singing a few songs in the gym at 6:20. Please bring your child to the gym at 6:10 so they can participate with Mrs. Kincer. There will be other grade level performances throughout the night.

Next week we will read biographies about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.  Next week we will also be talking about Dental Health and how we can take good care of our teeth. We will talk about healthy and unhealthy foods, how to prevent tooth decay and what to expect at a dental visit. On Friday we will watch a movie about Dental Health.

Over the next two weeks we will be participating in the National Read across America celebration. This is traditionally held at this time of year to commemorate the birthday of the late Richard Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss, on March 2nd.This nationwide program seeks to encourage children to share and develop a love of reading. There are lots of fun activities at the website www.seussville.com. We’ll read lots of Dr. Seuss books and do

rhyming activities as part of our daily work. On Friday March 6th we will celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday by making green eggs and ham☺, or for those students who don’t eat ham they will just eat eggs.

Please remember to have your child read to you each day and record it on the log in their Book in the Bag. The reading log should be kept in the reading bag. Rereading the books helps the children develop fluency.Your child should continue to re-read the book until a new one comes home.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Kathy Gauen
