News from Mrs. Gauen’s Kindergarten
Jan.31,2020
Don’t forget….Tonight is a fundraiser for our school at City Barbeque. Our school will get 25% of the sales!! Enjoy dinner out for a great cause. I put another copy of the flyer in the folder.
We have two new friends in our class since the New Year!! Sullivan Lutz moved over from Mrs. Shawver’s half day class a few weeks ago and Monday a new friend will join us, Randall Speer. We are excited to welcome both of them to the Room 111 team!!!
Happy 101st day of kindergarten!!! The children were very excited to share their collections this week. Thank you for helping them with this project. Yesterday we had four stations in the morning and four in the afternoon to help us celebrate 100 day. We made a snack with 100 ingredients (10 items and they took 10 of each-( thanks for the 50 cents donations to pay for the snack), made a 100 day hat, colored a 100 day picture, wrote about their collection and took their picture with the collection. This week the children also worked very hard on a 100 chart writing the numbers 1-100! We looked at the charts and talked about the patterns they could see with the numbers in each column.
Today we also talked about Groundhog day (Sunday) and predicted whether or not the children thought we would have an early Spring. Some wanted warmer weather for bike riding while others wanted more snow!! It certainly has been a very mild winter so maybe we will get an early spring…..although I do miss the beauty of a snowfall!!
Attached to the newsletter you’ll find another copy of the class list for Valentine’s day. Please do not write the names for your child. He/she should sign and address each card. Valentines are available at the local dollar store. You might want to consider doing 5-6 cards per day, so your child is not overwhelmed by this task. Remember to remind your child to use a capital letter for the first letter of each name and all the other letters should be lowercase. This is an excellent opportunity for the children to understand a purpose for learning to write letters correctly. Please send the completed valentines to school starting on either the 13th or14th.
If you signed up to help or bring a treat for the valentine party on Feb.14th I’ve listed it here:

Thank you to those who have sent in a cardboard, half gallon juice carton. We still need quite a few more so please send them in . We’ll be transforming them into mailboxes for our valentines. The children do not need to make a box at home. When we make the boxes each child will tell me their address and we’ll add that to the mailbox. If your child doesn’t know his/her address, please practice this over the weekend and next week. This is an important safety skill for all children.
Have a great weekend!
