         News from Mrs. Gauen’s Kindergarten

         Jan. 24,2020

Next Thursday school will dismiss at 2:30 for staff workshops.

I hope your child has been busy working on the 100 collection!!! We will celebrate on January 30th. Please make sure your child has the collection here at school by Jan. 30th. We will be sharing the collections and creating a chart listing what each child brought for their collection and I would hate for anyone to feel left out!!! Remember the collection should be in a decorated box or bag with 10 baggies inside. Each baggie should have 10 of the same item. the collection should be 100 of the same item in 10 baggies. Tell your child not to tell anyone what is inside because we will be doing a guessing game that day to guess the contents of their box/bag.Please also send in 50 cents to cover the cost of our special 100 day snack we are making that day.

This week we have been reading non-fiction books and learning all about penguins. Ask your child to tell you a few facts they have learned!!!

Please remember to send shoes in the bookbag when your child wears boots to school. This keeps our room cleaner and is more comfortable for the children.

Remember we need empty, clean juice cartons to use for our Valentine mailboxes. Please continue to send in the cartons. (The cardboard type that holds orange juice)

Next week we will be doing lots of number activities leading up to our 100 day celebration on Thursday. We will write numbers to 100 and write about what we would do with $100.00!!

On March 5th the staff is planning a special evening for our families. We will have lots of fun activities for your child to do with you. There will be stations set up throughout the school. We will also have panel led by some of our staff about the challenges of parenting. The PTA is also sponsoring a book fair that night in the library. I hope you can join us for a fun filled evening with your child.

As you are shopping for valentines cards for your child, please try to find larger cards since it is easier for the children to write the names in a larger space. I am attaching a class list. Please do not write the names for your child. The purpose of this activity is to give the children practice writing the letters and to help them see a purpose for writing. They only need to write the first name.

If you don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day, please have your child make friendship cards. Please plan on writing a few valentines each day and then it will not be an overwhelming task.

Have a great weekend!

Kathy Gauen
