News from Mrs. Gauen’s Kindergarten

October 23, 2019

Thank you to everyone who volunteered to help with the Halloween party. If you volunteered I have listed what you signed up for here _______________________________.

If you did not volunteer please do not send in any extra food or drink since we have plenty of food. Thank you! We are in need of things for the party so please look for the party sign ups for the Fall Party, Winter Party and Valentines Party outside the classroom door and sign up if you are able.

The party will begin with the costume parade starting at 2:15 on the walking trail behind the school. If you are volunteering at the party please meet in the classroom by 2:10 to help the students make their way to the parade. Please make sure your child can use the restroom in his/her costume ☺.

I am looking forward to sharing your child’s progress with you either tonight or tomorrow. Each conference is scheduled for 20 minutes. We will meet in our classroom.

Thank you to everyone who has been helping your child learn all the letters , letter sounds and practicing the sight words. Many of the children have shown significant growth since school began. Last week I gave them a special reading bag called our Book in the Bag. Inside are flashcards to practice the letters and sounds. There is also a word ring to help practice the sight words we have learned so far. Please remind your child to keep this in their bookbag. They should take it out each night to read with you. There will be a reading log for you to record the books read that come home in the bag. Please only record the books sent in the bag. Then return the Book in the Bag to their bookbag.  Also, please help your child remember to share their shoebox books with you and then return them to their shoebox for future reading.

In addition to working on our reading skills, the children have been practicing identifying and writing numerals 0-12 in their harvest books. These came home today. Ask your child to share the book with you and sing our harvest song!!!

Remember there is no school tomorrow and Friday.

See you tonight or tomorrow,

Kathy Gauen
