News from Mrs. Gauen’s Kindergarten

Oct. 17,2019

NO SCHOOL TOMORROW. Tomorrow is a teacher work day and there are no classes for students.

Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who joined us at Lynd’s Fruit Farm yesterday. Despite the chilly weather we had a great time learning about how apples grow and seeing the packing process at the farm. Each child got to pick a bag of apples and then taste one!!!

I am looking forward to sharing your child’s progress with you on Oct. 23rd or 24th.  Remember there will not be any classes on Oct. 24th or 25th. I will be giving you a paper copy at our conference. At the conference I will give you copies of some of the assessments I have done. If you want paper copies of future Achievement Records you may request one and the office will print one. Otherwise you will need to access it online after this initial conference.

Over the next few weeks we will be learning about Fire Safety. We are hoping to have a  visit from the Westerville Fire Department.Your child will also be getting some new shoebox books about fire safety as well. Please practice a fire drill at home and talk to your child about your meeting place outside your home in the event of a fire. Also, our firefighter friends asked us to remind everyone to replace smoke detector batteries this month.

Thank you to everyone who has been helping your child learn all the letters, letter sounds and practicing sight words. Many of the

children have shown significant growth since school began. The week I sent home a book about Fall in the reading bag for the children to read to you and record on the reading log. Please only write the books sent home in the bag.

Also, please help your child remember to share their shoebox books

with you and then return them to their shoebox for future reading. These are done each week as part of our literacy centers in the morning.

In addition to working on our reading skills, the children have been practicing identifying and writing numerals 0-12 in their harvest books. These will be coming home at the end of the month. Ask your child to share the book with you and sing our harvest song!!!

Have a great weekend,

Kathy Gauen
