I hope you heard about our beautiful butterflies!!! They emerged (new vocabulary word!!!) from the chrysalis this week and we have been letting them go in our side yard. We have one chrysalis left in our enclosure.
On Oct.16th we’ll be taking a field trip to Lynd’s Apple Orchard during our regular school day. We will leave school at 9:15 and return at 11:15. Our wonderful PTA is paying for the cost of the trip. There is a permission slip in today’s folder. Please sign it and return it on Monday. Please also indicate if you will be joining us. There is no limit to the number of volunteers but you may need to follow the bus in your car since there will be limited spaces on the bus. Also, NO Siblings are permitted on the trip. Thank you!!!!
Our activities over the next few weeks will help prepare the children for the trip. We’ll be reading a collection of non-fiction books about the life cycle of both apples and pumpkins and creating an art project to illustrate this. We will also read the book Ten Apples Up on Top and make our own Up of Top craft with our names. We will also be learning about the changing seasons and looking for changes outside our classroom.
This week we will began our classroom volunteers. If you indicated a desire to volunteer I sent a note in last week’s folder. If the time I have assigned to you does not work, please let me know. Thank you for all the help in advance!
This week we have been continuing to learn our first few sight words. These are words that I expect the children to recognize quickly when they encounter them in their reading. we have been looking for the words in print as we do read alouds and during read to self time each afternoon. The words I have introduced are; I, can, am, see, the, like. Please encourage your child to look for these words as you are sharing books together. Remember this is a great time to get your child a Westerville Public Library card. There is an amazing collection of books, movies and other resources available at the library.
Tonight is a fun evening in Uptown Westerville called Fourth Friday. Many of you may have gone to this fun-filled family event in the past. State Street is closed in Uptown and there are all kinds of great activities to do with your family. There are also a variety of food trucks.
Have a great weekend,
Kathy Gauen
