NHD

Using the National History Day (NHD) structure, students explore history by selecting a topic of interest and launching into a semester-long research project.  Every year the project is framed within a historical theme. The 2020-21 theme is Communication in History: The Key to Understanding.  When studying history through historical research, students practice critical inquiry by asking questions of significance to time and place.

Students will begin looking at topics within early American history; however, chosen topics can vary from the course-of-study with teacher approval.  There will be a school wide showcase in February, and students may choose to compete in the regional contest in March.  Regional winners will move on to compete in the state competition in April.  State winners will move up to the NATIONAL competition in June held at the University of Maryland.
