A group of Blendon Middle School students recently celebrated their academic and non-academic achievements after qualifying for the school’s Second Quarter 2019-2020 Renaissance Awards. In recognition of their efforts, 336 students last month enjoyed an afternoon of bowling at Gahanna Lanes. Sixth-grade students took their trip to the lanes on February 25, while seventh- and eighth-graders participated on February 26.

Students must meet high standards in academics, community service, attendance, attitude, and school spirit in order to qualify for the quarterly awards. Honorees receive a certificate for their accomplishment, followed by a celebration with a variety of wonderful raffle prizes donated by local businesses and PTO parents. Prizes included items such as Renaissance t-shirts from the Blendon Principal; tickets from the Cleveland Cavaliers; and gift cards from Chipotle, City BBQ, Cold Stone Creamery, Dairy Queen, Donato’s Pizza, Jersey Mike’s Subs, Magic Mountain, Marcus Theatre, Old Skool Skateboards, Scrambler’s, Skyline Chili, and current and former parents Meg Miller and Carla Tedeschi, respectively.

Blendon’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) also donated free admission to the next school dance, along with pizza, drinks, and chips to several lucky Blendon students.  The Grand Prize was an Amazon Fire Tablet, a $10 amazon.com gift card, and Pac-Man decals. Following the awards presentation, students spent the rest of the day enjoying bowling and video arcade games.

The 2019-20 school year began the 10th year for the Blendon Renaissance Awards Program, which would not be possible without the continued support of local and national businesses, Blendon parents, and the Blendon PTO!
