Six Westerville City School District seniors are among the 15,000 Finalists in the 65th annual National Merit Scholarship Program: Juliet Bernard, Robert Boyd and Justin Wade (Westerville Central); Mason Fite and Marin Kalista (Westerville North); and Mason Harris (Westerville South).
These academically talented students have met stringent eligibility requirements and remain in the running for one of approximately 7,600 National Merit Scholarships, cumulatively worth more than $31 million, to be awarded in April. About half of the Finalists nationwide are expected to win a National Merit Scholarship and earn the Merit Scholar title.
National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance, was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds, along with additional support from approximately 400 business organizations and higher education institutions that share NMSC’s goals of honoring the nation’s scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.
