Westerville North Senior Taweh Hunter Earns Full Ride to Columbia University

Taweh Hunter is headed to Columbia University on a full, four-year scholarship, where he will study Neuroscience.

 

 

 

Results of the 2019 QuestBridge National College Match, a program that connects high-achieving, low-income high school seniors with full four-year scholarships to the nation’s top colleges, have been revealed.  Listed among the outstanding students who were selected as this year’s recipients is Taweh Hunter, a senior at Westerville North High School.  He has earned a full ride to Columbia University in New York City, where he will study Neuroscience research. 

Hunter’s grade point average, weighted, is 4.7522.  He is currently third in his class at Westerville North.  He enjoys music and comedy and is involved in athletics and going to the gym.  He has been employed at Chipotle since October 2018.  He volunteers in food pantries, as a referee for youth sports, and at his church.  Hunter attended Cherrington Elementary from kindergarten through grade three; the Hanby Elementary Gifted Program for grades four and five; and Walnut Springs Middle School. 

Out of 14,926 applicants, QuestBridge picked 5,842 Finalists, and then 1,127 to receive full-ride scholarships.  Match Scholarship Recipients are admitted early to QuestBridge college partners with full four-year scholarships that are provided by the colleges and universities, ensuring for these students and their families that an education at a top college can be affordable.

Hailing from 49 states, including the District of Columbia, as well as the territories of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands, the 2019 Match Scholarship Recipients have an average unweighted GPA of 3.93.  For standardized testing, the middle 50 percent received between 1350 - 1500 on the SAT and between 30 - 33 on the ACT.  In addition, 93 percent are within the top 10 percent of their graduating class.  Financially, 95 percent come from a household with an annual income under $65,000, and 85 percent qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.  The majority of these new QuestBridge Scholars (77 percent) are among the first generation in their families to attend a four-year college in the United States.

Since 2003, the QuestBridge National College Match has successfully connected nearly 7,400 students with full scholarships at college partners.
