Thanks to generous grants from the Bette Marschall Foundation and the Ohio Arts Council, students at Emerson and Hanby elementary schools have enjoyed working with some very special visiting artists.
Melinda Reams, a former special education coordinator with Westerville City Schools, is a Zentangle instructor. Zentangle is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns, called tangles. Tangles are created with combinations of dots, lines, simple curves, S-curves and orbs, shapes called “elemental strokes.” Her four workshops, funded by the Bette Marschall Foundation and the Ohio Art Education Foundation, cover both wood and tile mediums.
Mosaic artist and muralist Vicki Murphy is working with art classes at both schools during several days between now and December 13. She uses colorful tiles, mirror and stained glass tesserae to create mosaic designs and wall installations. She is sponsored by the Ohio Arts Council.
